Nevada Hispanic Truckers At Risk
On March 5, 2009 Jason Rivenburg, a truck driver from Schoharie County, was killed while resting in his rig at an abandoned gas station in South Carolina. Clark County has no business license for long-term truck parking. Nevada Hispanic truckers who often start their day early in the morning are at risk of being robbed and killed without long-term safe truck parking.
JASON'S LAW GOALS
Federal law, Jason's law requires counties and municipalities to provide for safe truck parking.
The Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21; P.L. 112-141) legislation that became effective on October 1, 2012. “Jason’s Law” was established to provide a “national priority on addressing the shortage of long-term parking for commercial motor vehicles on the National Highway System (NHS) to improve the safety of motorized and non-motorized users and for commercial motor vehicle operators.”
